The Liver Meridian

The liver meridian

The liver meridian is the Yin meridian of the wood element. The starting point is on the big toe, on the outer nail bed. From here it runs over the back of the foot to the inside of the ankle. From the ankle, the meridian runs along the entire inside of the leg up to the groin. Further over the stomach to the 6th space between the ribs. Here is the endpoint of the liver meridian.

To stimulate the liver meridian in Yang Yoga, I stretch the inside of the legs, as I did with the kidney meridian. In contrast to the kidney meridian, I stretch the inside of the leg while seated so that I can move into a twist afterward. I sit on a blanket so that my pelvis doesn’t tip back. I spread my legs as wide as possible or so that the stretch feels comfortable. Then I place my fingertips on the ground with my arms stretched out and walk them forward as far as my body allows. I try to keep my back straight as best I can. I stay in this position for about 10-15 breaths. To get out of this position, I walk my fingertips back until my back and spine are upright. Now I can easily twist to both sides. I especially like twists because they stimulate my digestive organs very nicely.
